WOMEN STANDING UP GIVES ME HOPE
Women are standing up and it should give us hope that that we will not lose our rights that were fought for and for which many died. Women are saying, “We will move forward and will not go back.”
Trump was elected in an “America First” and “Make America Great Again” thrust. What people forgot was this was America’s pre World War II slogan when America was in its isolation period. Trump and his supporters wanted to return to pre 1954. Spencer and his group talk about separation between the races. They want to return to the period before the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court Case. They believe in separate but equal. They really want separate even if it is not equal. Remember Charlotteville? This was Spencer and his group. Trump called them “good people” even though one of them caused the death of a woman. Trump wants to turn back the clock and he is trying to do so with executive orders that he used to say were illegal and unconstitutional. He and the Republican Party are making cuts to programs for women and children, the elderly and disabled in order to provide tax breaks for the rich. They have made attacks on medicare and social security and appear to have plans to do more cuts and revisions. It is in the cuts to children and women’s programs and attempts to change and alter women’s rights that women are protesting and standing up. Harassment and abuse of women is currently being addressed by women and others on all levels. Trump had told people that America was awful and weak and disgraceful. He now wants to destroy all of Americas institutions. He called the White House a “dump.” Why did he run for President of the United States if he hated the country that much? Someone is pulling Trump’s strings.
I am troubled that no one explored Trump’s positions more during the debates. They allowed him to make personal attacks and not address issues. No one asked: Are white supremacy and separatist views practical? Can we live with this type of hatred and divisiveness for four years? Do we want to return to pre World War II times? No one thought that he wanted to start a war again in the Middle East. He wants to start a war anywhere so he can use the bombs that he now has access to use. He admitted assaults on women and this did not matter to voters.
Women are inspiring me in their response to the election. They are standing up and trying to fight back. Women all over are chanting “we will not go back”. Do not underestimate the power of women. Women are learning that they have powers. They will not give up this power easily. There is change in the air inspired by women. This gives me hope that other changes will also be made. We cannot lose hope! As long as women are standing up, we have hope!
