Why?
I promised myself that I would never ask myself the question, “Why?”
I have been talking to Elwyn and Bob, a college friend who said the question that you must ask now is why?
Why were you targeted by law enforcement? Was the reason simply that I was Black, female and poor and bucking the system enough. After contemplating the reason for what happened to me, I think I need to ask this question, “Why?”
I was the only Black Court appointed attorney in Brazos County. When I was job hunting, people would say to me, “Didn’t anyone tell you about Brazos County? It is like Jasper or Vidor. Did you not know that?”
“No, I would say. I did not know that. I had no idea that my home would be burglarized on a regular basis and everything that I held dear would be stolen without a warrant. All of my legal files, financial records, student loan payment records since 1966 would be seized without a warrant. Additionally, all of my mortgage payments from my home purchased in 1978 in Michigan and my timeshare purchased in 1997 in Virginia would be stolen. All of my tax records since 1968 were seized without a warrant and never returned. My business and personal records and all of my legal preparation for the trial were stolen before the trial by the Task Force and local police and concealed during my trial to effect a conviction. I had no idea that the corruption of the courts included the two Texas Supreme Courts, the State Bar, the U.S.District Clerk’s office and their staff, the 5th Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. The question of why needs to be answered. I told Elwyn, there is something that I am missing here. There is something I need to know. Who fabricated this evidence and all of these checks. Why were all of the records and the indictment destroyed and all the records fabricated. Why are all these people involved? The answer to the question “Why?” is simple. They expect no repercussion. They have done this for so many years and gotten away with it that have no fear. Corruption is systemic. They do not have to have a record or anything. There is no one who will hold them accountable. The entire system is corrupt. There is no equal protection of the law if you are poor and a minority. The system is broken. They have a license to kill. Wrongful incarceration is low on the totem pole of things that are allowed. They are destroying all records that will defeat them from the public record. This is why my home is being burglarized so frequently. They must make sure that all original records are destroyed.
