THE VIEW—–SOME THOUGHTS

The argument between Joy and Megan of The View reflect society and provide a teaching moment for us all.

Joy and Megan got into an argument during former President Bush’s funeral. The teaching moment may be found in the fact that they did not fight physically and returned the next day and were civil and professional.

In this day, when people are expressing their anger with weapons and feel that it okay to go and get a gun and kill when you are angry; this exchange is a teaching moment.

Like Joy, I get frustrated with Megan. She often spouts Trump’s views without much thought or examination of the view itself and its validity and truthfulness. I am waiting for her to evolve. I tolerate her because she has a right to her point of view and because of my respect for her father with whom I disageed but respected. She is needed on the show along with other conservatives because they reflect America and show that people can disagree without death being a result.  We must continually work on developing a tolerance for differences of races and opinions.

A woman in Kroger related an incident which is instructive. She was shopping and went to pay for her food. There was no one in the line but there was food on the counter. She handed her purchases to the checker. A female from another aisle shouted, “that is my place and those are my purchases.”

“That was not apparent to me”, the relator said.

“Oh, you are one of those smart bitches,” the woman replied. She proceeded to go to her car and get a gun and re-enter the store to shoot the woman. The security guard and manager had to intervene.

I remembered another incident in which a white male became so angry when he perceived that I had cut in from of him in the line to the bank that he jumped out of his car and ordered me out of my car frothing at the mouth with balled fists. I did not get out of my car and allowed him to go first instead. When I discussed this with a psychiatrist friend, he told me that I would be amazed at how many persons in need of mental health treatment are walking around among us daily.

I think the incident on The View is instructive because it showed people that you can disagree even vehemently but you do not have to resolve your anger with a gun or weapon. It is important that we return to “using our words” as we were taught in kindergarten and younger grades. We no longer teach “using your words” to children and it is very needed as well as anger management and conflict resolution.  That incident on The View was important as it was a slice of the life people are living in the era of Trump.
