Texas Cover-ups of Wrongful Convictions–some thoughts
I recently learned how the State of Texas conceals wrongful convictions and avoids paying the defendants. When the state fails to prove all elements of the crime per the indictment, the Texas Supreme Court came up with a way to conceal this and avoid releasing the person–lost indictment. Lost indictments allow the prosecutors to go in and lie and say the indictment was lost and create a new indictment. Then the clerks and courts destroy all the evidence to support innocence and destroy the trial record. Without a record, the defendant is denied appeal. The courts then all support conviction all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. Everyone knows what is happening all the way up the line to the Supreme Court. Innocent men are executed and wrongfully convicted in Texas. This practice needs to be stopped.
