So sad that I am mad!

     I was in Kroger the other day and my friend and another were talking about her cancer treatments.  The Kroger employee was telling the customer that she had been very sick the other day. She is taking chemotherapy now. The customer told us that her daughter recently died of cervical cancer.  When I heard cervical cancer my ears pricked up.  I had cervical cancer and had surgery in 1975.  I had been told at the time that I had a rapid growing kind of cancer that from onset to death usually took six months.  I am still alive. 

     I asked her some questions and learned that her daughter had been employed on a job that did not have insurance.  She had recently lost her job and did not have any insurance.  She did not subscribe to Obamacare or medicaid.  She was 53.  She lived in a small town that did not have Women’s Clinics or Abortion Clinics as conservatives call them.  I was so angry when I read in the paper that people are trying to close women’s clinics all over Texas.   Many people do not realize that these clinics provide free mammograms , pap smears and birth control for women even if they have insurance.  These clinics provide needed services to women other than abortions.  Few abortions are being performed today.  Her daughter had not been taking regular pap smears or getting medical treatment.  Her daughter thought that she had time to get treatment.  Within two weeks she was gone.  The family is white and is devastated.  I am black and am so sad that we lost a precious person for lack of regular medical treatment that I am mad.  I am mad that people do not understand the purpose of these women’s clinics and are not utilizing their services. These clinics  are being closed all over Texas and more women will be dying who do not need to die because they do not have access to regular medical treatment. They will not meet the requirements for medicaid or disability and cannot afford insurance.  People in small towns will continue to die without medical treatment for curable medical issues.  This should not be still happening in America.  This makes me so sad that I am mad!!!
