NEIMAN MARCUS—SOME THOUGHTS

 In Uncategorized

Neiman Marcus is having financial difficulties. Many retailers are having similar problems coping with online stores. We will miss the Neiman Marcus’ of this world.

I was blessed to work for Neiman Marcus in the seventies. I was in undergraduate school. My friends and I would drive to Richardson, Texas to buy their large sized shoes which would go on sale in August. Shoes were cheaper and better than those shoes were cheaper and better than one could buy at any other store. There was no comparison in quality. Neiman’s sales were extraordinary. Moreover, you would not see yourself coming and going. They only had a few shoes in every size. They were known for being one of a kind.

I will miss Neiman Marcus because they were truly an equal opportunity employer when no other company of their kind was. One could be turned down for a credit card at Sears but could be given a Neiman Marcus Credit Card because they did  not discriminate. I was given my Neiman Marcus credit card in 1972. I valued this card. I loved and respected the way Neiman Marcus treated its customers.

I will always remember 1975 when I was in graduate school and I did not have any money for Christmas. I had a Neiman Marcus credit card. I called in an order for presents for myself and my son from the Neiman Marcus catalogue. I was told they might not be able to get me the presents before Christmas. They sent the order to me by FedEx. I had a Christmas tree and presents for myself and my son. It was my best Christmas ever. I was  grateful to Neiman Marcus even if the items were a little pricey.  There are other things that Neiman did for me that I will never forget.

Neiman Marcus was known for honesty and integrity. There is no comparison between them and other companies. For example, I lost my fur coats because I moved them from Neiman Marcus’ storage to Dittrich Furs storage in Detroit. I purchased the coats from Dittrich. They were dishonest and crooked. They stole my coats and lied about its value when it was purchased and sold. Neiman Marcus would never have engaged in such dischonest and crooked behavior and testified to that effect in my trial. Neiman Marcus will be missed for their honest and integrity. I hope that they will discover a way to survive. They will be missed!
