Guns and Weapons Should Be Reduced and Nuclear Weapons Should Never Be Used

Guns and Weapons should be reduced and nuclear weapons should never be used.

I was so excited when ex-military persons went to North Dakota to stand with Native Americans against the pipeline. What excited me was that they stated they were not going to use weapons but were standing on the shoulders of Martin L. King and Ghandi—nonviolently. They got it. We can protest anything but we must do it nonviolently. Guns and weapons are not the answer. They helped because we are our brother’s keepers.

When I hear our newly elected President-elect talking about the need to increase nuclear weapons and we should allow other countries to build and increase their nuclear weapons, I get frightened to my core. When we have weapons we might use them. We might push each other to the point where one or the other will push the button that will destroy civilization as we know it.  Nothing Hussien ever did warranted our dropping bombs on that country. This was about power and control. Bush and company  made up lies about weapons of mass destruction to support their actions. Iraq and its country was forever destroyed for no reason.

When I hear about guns that shoot thirty or more times and others, I think about mothers who sent their children to school and had to bury them instead of watching them grow up. I remember parents who sent children to war and had to bury their sons. I remember when Blacks became upset about the murders of the innocent during arrests and other injustice; people became upset because they protested. Root was recently convicted of shooting and killing nine Black people while they sat with their eyes closed praying after  Bible study.

We verbally speak of valuing life, but how many children and people must die before we do something about guns and the buildup of nuclear weapons. Weapons kill. We should not cheer a person who calls for our deaths with the buildup of nuclear weapons. When we have weapons, we use them. We see so much death daily that we are numbed to the true loss. We should not encourage bullies who make threats. When pushed, they may lose control and it will be the death of civilization as we know it. It will not just be a few lives that are lost. We should continue to support gun and nuclear weapon control no matter who calls for a buildup of nuclear weapons for any reason.
