COLIN KAEPERNICK–SOME THOUGHT
I do not know what happened with the NFL trials this weekend. There is no question that Colin became the face of the protest and took the brunt of the punishment. Rodney Reed is alive today because Colin Kaepernick took a knee and exposed the inequities in the social justice system and police brutality that had been going on for years. Sure he got other valuable support from Dr. Phil McGraw, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Kim Kadashian West, Hadid, and others. However, the initial focus on Social Injustice was done by Colin Kaepernick. Otherwise, you would not have protest and people drawing a line in the sand stating this kind of injustice cannot continue.
I understand Kaepernick’s fear and reaction. When I was denied a license to practice law in Michigan for what I perceived to be not a good reason; I did not want to try again. I was angry and afraid of failing. I could have been submissive and ingratiating. I was angry because I was treated unfairly. I spoke in anger. However, the Board of Law Examiner’s saw me beyond the anger and granted me a full license to practice law. Colin Kaepernick deserves a chance to play again. Some or one of these owners should see this young man who had a dream of playing football and look beyond the anger and give him a chance. This would be my prayer. It is time to stop the nonsense. Everybody recognizes that the legal system is broken and needs to be reformed. The legal executions and incarcerations of innocent blacks, browns and the poor must stop. It is past time to change the culture in America so that all people are treated fairly and the rule of law is applied equally.
