Boris Got It Right
I had dinner the other day and a young Hispanic man engaged me in conversation. We were watching Michigan State’s victory and later Duke’s game. Somehow we got around to Ray Rice. He reported that the system is not fair. He was sixteen when a girl tried to beat him up. She put a hematoma on the back of his head. He says he got up and hit her back. The next day, he was given a ticket and had to go to court and face assault charges. He felt it was self defense. She did not get a ticket. He did not think that this was fair. He states that he felt bad for hitting her because she was not as strong as he was. He tried to apologize to her. She tried to cut him with a box cutter. She was not suppose to have a box cutter in school. He states that he talked her out of it because he told her that he would hurt her if she cut him. He further reports that his wife has attacked him and hit him twice since they have been married. He has not hit her back because he is afraid of going to jail. “The system is not fair. They will blame me even if she provokes me or starts it,” he said. He does not hit her back because he knows that he is stronger than she is and he is afraid that he may hurt her if he fights her back. “I do not hit her back, ” he said. She should not hit me. He feels that Ray Rice deserves a second chance. I feel that Boris has it right. Do not strike a woman. A man is stronger and can hurt a woman. Ray Rice also needs a second chance. Everyone deserves a second chance. We want to see Ray Rice play again.
