Bannon’s “Dope Fiend” Move on Mitt Romney
Bannon pulled a “dope fiend” move on Mitt Romney who questioned the moral standard of Moore and the party who support him despite his history of dating children in the past.
A typical “dope fiend” move is to change the subject or distract when the focus is on the addict and his behavior.
When Romney challenged the position of the party in supporting Moore for a vote instead of standing on moral principles, Bannon pulled a “dope fiend” move and criticized Romney and his family for not fighting in the war or serving in the military. Serving in the military was not the issue. This was a distraction. This was a shift in the focus of the conversation. Nobody is fooled by this tactic. This is a tactic that Bannon and Trump employ. “This old dog will not hunt anymore.” Nobody is distracted. Republicans may not have any moral standards or may want to deviate from accepted moral standards, but society is not buying the change.
Trump was elected with his baggage and Moore may get elected with his baggage which deviates from the current norm. However, we are not blinded by what this means when the Republican Party pushes for this change in the accepted norm. I never thought that I would say this but I agree with Mitt Romney. A Mitt Romney speaking for his party is needed. America cannot normalize criminal behavior for any reason. This behavior cannot set the standard in Congress. Bannon’s behavior in making a “dope fiend” move on Romney needs to be called out for what it is. It is simply a distraction from the topic being addressed. We recognize it for what it is. We are not distracted and we are not buying this strategy. We are calling it what it is: A dope fiend move!
