AND STILL I STAND
I was framed for a crime I did not commit in 2007 in retaliation for my opposing the corrupt and racist judicial system in Brazos County. I believe it was precipitated by my calling Lt. James Arnold a lie in front of people in the Police Station.
For some reason probably because of race ( I was the only Black court appointed Black lawyer in the county at the time) the judges in Brazos County were meeting about what to do about me. Per the sworn testimony on the record by Lt. James Arnold, he was authorized by Judge Lott to engage in warrantless searches of my town home in order to obtain evidence to support a warrant. He stated the ” we had to engage in warrantless searches of her home because she had never been convicted of anything except unpaid parking tickets.” Remember, during their search, they seized all of my money, silver collection, receivables such as all of my court appointed record so that I could not bill for my legal fees that were owed me in any county, two computers, a fax machine, my legal files and even the filing cabinet, all legal files and records and receipts from my law firm since 2002, all personal and business tax records, all client, business, personal names and records; all personal and business tax records from 1968, mortgage records from 1978, student loan records and payment receipts since 1968, time share records since 1997, daily planners and records for my office and my personal daily planner. Since that time someone has stolen all of my books since undergraduate school, cook books and personal books, clothes, shoes and almost everything that I owned that was not the clothes on my back. My apartments or homes have been burglarized two or three days a week or more. My car has been stolen and legal files stored in my car were stolen. I have been harrassed and terrorized since 2007 by someone. I have been stalked and followed. There has been no reason given other than my exposure of the criminal interprises in the legal profession and the racism in the system. As one white female told me yesterday, “the legal system was designed to protect the rich white man in America. It was never meant to protect anyone else. It is a good ole boy system.”
On 9/7/2018, I obtained a copy of my record with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and was told the the only thing they now have is my inmate number. All records of my conviction and the charges have been destroyed. They have the secret trial and indictment but do not have any of my original charges, indictment or anything else. They report that I must obtain this information from the District Clerk who report that the records have been destroyed. No one in the state have copies of the original charges, warrants, clerk record, reporter’s record, the original opinion of the 1oth Court of Appeals, my appeals, etc. No one in the state has any records on my case. They have a Helen Mayfield but the charges and indictments are not the same. The date of birth is not even the same. I do not know how this occurred that the date of birth was altered.
I have been stripped of my law and Social Work licenses, all of my clothes, books and life as I knew it. I find myself somewhat like nuns used to be in the Catholic Church–not able to say the homily or preach as we call it. Like the nuns of old, I say, ” I do not have to be a priest to talk about God’s love and teachings.” I do not have to be a lawyer to talk about corruption in the legal profession and my love of the Constitution, Bill of Rights and the rule of law. You do not have to be a lawyer to know that it is wrong to execute and wrongly incarcerate the innocent. The problems with the legal system can be fixed. They are people problems. We have not been electing ethical people who believe in the Constitution and the rule of law. This can be fixed. We must stop stacking the court with people who do not believe in the Constitution and the rule of law and its principles. Nobody should have to tell us that politicizing the United States Supreme Court is wrong and dangerous to our Democracy.
They stole my money and slandered my name. They could not touch the essence of me. Despite their attacks and mammoth efforts to defeat me by going back and altering all of my cases back to 2002, they cannot touch the essence of me and who I am. There is an old saying, “If they call you a cow, are you going to come in mooing?” You are not what someone calls you. You define who you are. Nobody else can do that for you.
I cannot say that I understand this kind of hatred and anger even though I have been a therapist for forty plus years. I cannot understand these white men conspiring to destroy the life of one Black lawyer. I cannot understand the anger and thought process that made them falsify records and create a crime and conduct a secret trial. They have harassed and terrorized me since 2007. They have taken all of my possessions and belongings. Records have been destroyed and altered. Now, there are no records in the state of Texas pertaining to my original case. Even the State Bar has removed the original opinion supporting disbarment and destroyed or altered their records. Something must be done. Despite three attempts on my life, my home, car, friends homes, churches, two safe deposit boxes at two different bank being burglarized or robbed, car being stolen and my trial transcripts stolen from the car; I am still standing!!
Every hard time and negative event in my life has prepared me for this day and time. I am stronger than I thought. I am a survivor. I AM STILL STANDING DESPITE EVERYTHING! THEY MAY HAVE TO KILL ME TO DEFEAT ME.
I AM PRIVILIGED TO BE ABLE TO TRY TO EXPOSE THE CORRUPTION IN THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM IN TEXAS. IT HAS BEEN WORTH IT TO LOSE EVERYTHING TO LEARN OF THE DEPTH OF THE CORRUPTION. DOES ANYONE IN THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM HAVE ANY INTEGRITY ANYWHERE? I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW HURT I WAS TO LEARN THAT THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT WAS A PART OF THE CORRUPTION. NOW I UNDERSTAND. SCOTUS HAS BEEN SO POLITICIZED THAT THE VALUES AND PRINCIPLES OF OLD NO LONGER APPLY. THEY WILL PUT ANYONE ON THE COURT TO ACHIEVE THEIR POLITICAL ENDS. NOBODY VALUES INTEGRITY AND THE RULE OF LAW. MY CASE WAS MEANT TO EXPOSE THE CORRUPTION AND HOW THE INNOCENT ARE EXECUTED AND WRONGLY CONVICTED IN TEXAS.
