A Lesson In Kindness
I had been a phone buddy of Leonard Loeb for approximately four years off and on when we had an interesting conversation about kindness.
I was essentially a stranger to Leonard. Despite this, he always talked to me and treated me with kindness. We talked about why I was a social worker and he a lawyer. He said, “It is always easy to be kind to others. I am always kind to you. I always take your calls and we talk for hours sometimes even when I am busy.” I did not know at that time that Leonard Loeb was the President of the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association and had a large practice. He was my kind friend who treated me kindly and encouraged me to improve and complete my law degree. I realized that I must not abuse the friendship or the kindness. I learned to extend kindness to others as he and others extended kindness to me. Kindness does not cost you anything. It is easier to be kind than to be hurtful. I have never forgotten his lessons in kindness and try to extend this kindness to others.
